This increasing longevity will inevitably lead to a rise in the number of patients with degenerative dementias such as Alzheimer’s disease, the prevalence of which increases exponentially after the age of 65. In addition to devastating cognitive impairment, these disorders are characterised by early and accelerating cerebral atrophy. MRI could therefore be used to distinguish these conditions from normal ageing. Methodological advances in MRI now allow characterisation of the structural changes that accompany healthy brain ageing, and might help differentiate them from neurodegeneration.

Iranian Brain Imaging Database: A Neuropsychiatric Database of Healthy Brain

Introduction: The Iranian Brain Imaging Database (IBID) was initiated in 2017, with 5 major goals: provide researchers easy access to a neuroimaging database, provide normative quantitative measures of the brain for clinical research purposes, study the aging profile of the brain, examine the association of brain structure and function, and join the ENIGMA consortium. Many prestigious databases...

The Cambridge Centre for Ageing and Neuroscience (Cam-CAN) data repository: Structural and functional MRI, MEG, and cognitive data from a cross-sectional adult lifespan sample

This paper describes the data repository for the Cambridge Centre for Ageing and Neuroscience (Cam-CAN) initial study cohort. The Cam-CAN Stage 2 repository contains multi-modal (MRI, MEG, and cognitive-behavioural) data from a large (approximately N=700), cross-sectional adult lifespan (18-87years old) population-based sample. The study is designed to characterise age-related changes in cognit...

Use of imaging techniques in detection of parotid masses Location compared to surgery

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the use of cross-sectional imaging techniques verses surgery in locating parotid masses. Material and Methods: Our study was performed on patients assumed to have parotid masses from Dec 2010 to Dec 2011. Before surgery, imaging studies (Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging) of parotid were done. After surgery, we compared the s...

Tract shape modelling provides evidence of topological change in corpus callosum genu during normal ageing

Understanding how ageing affects brain structure is an important challenge for medical science. By allowing segmentation of fasciculi-of-interest from diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) data, tractography provides a promising tool for assessing white matter connectivity in old age. However, the output from tractography algorithms is usually strongly dependent on the subjective location...
